Tennessee Extension Master Gardener
State Conference- April 5-7, 2018
Where is the conference?: The conference will be at Montgomery Bell State Park which offers a unique combination of nature and history with ready access to many TN cities. Our TEMG conference will use the conference center and The Forge restaurant as well as the inn on the lake all at one convenient and scenic location. MBSP has camping, hiking, birding, and golf to enjoy while attending.
What is the plan for all three days?: Thurs. the 5th (11:30 am – 6:00 pm) is a pre-day tour and hands-on workshop at Carter House, historic orchard and grounds hosted by Williamson Co. MGs. At the tour, we’ll have a fruit grafting workshop with Larry Stephenson from the Southern Fruit Fellowship leading.Fri. the 6th from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and Sat. the 6th from 8:30 am to 3:15 pm will be our conference filled with sessions and workshops led by special guests and our own excellent Tennessee Extension specialists, agents, and volunteers. We’ll even have options for the evenings. Snacks and lunch on both days as well as dinner on the 6th will be included in registration.
What are some of the sessions and topics?
· Statewide Search for Excellence awards Landscape walkabouts
· Wildflower and photography hikes Tree ID, diagnosis and value in our landscapes
· Lightning bugs and fireflies in TN A Tennessee turf tour
· A year of keeping bees in TN Sessions on arboretums, community gardens, youth programs,
surveys and outreach led by MGs TN garden vegetable trials
· Current entomology and pathology threats in TN Networking and planning sessions and much more!
When and how much will registration be?
Registration will be open as soon as 2018 arrives and we’ll have a full schedule in Dec. 2017. We are still finalizing prices as we figure out meal costs. We will have options for 1, 2, or 3 –day attendance to provide flexibility. We have most of the inn rooms reserved, so use 8783 to access our block. If you are camping, you might want to go ahead and book your site.
